Sites are concentrated countries a high Gross Domestic Product human pressure (e.g., western Europe) but, contrast, largest extent central-west Africa South America. identified key challenges effectiveness Network: increasing sites area, improved representation (functional, geographical biological); effective reporting. Increasing area network could benefit from targets, implemented scales. Knowledge representativeness is inadequate, requiring analyses functional ecotypes, biological representativeness. Finally, most have inadequate planning reporting ecological character their more focused attention vision objectives, regular indicators to guide management. There opportunities rigorously track character, utilizing new tools available remote sensing). critical that world protect its wetlands, an or Wetlands core.
